So, I'm traveling to London in April. Any recommendations of an area to stay would be appreciated. I'm interested in touristy stuff, btw.
Thanks in advance, Diane
Been a while since I've been there, but on the North side of Hyde Park is the Columbia Hotel, a nice place to stay and easy access to the underground.
A quick Google of "London tourist" will give you more things to see than you will have vacation for. The War Museum mentioned above is well worth the visit. Spend a couple of days starting out at Trafalgar Square and see the National Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields (Cafe in the Crypt still in the basement?), St James Park, Buckingham Palace, and a fairly easy walk down to Big Ben, the Eye, and Westminster Abbey. The classic changing of the guard is often crowded and hard to see anything, but we found the assembly area for the spiffy red coats behind the Admiralty where you can get a good close look as they ready to march down The Mall to the palace.
Save some evenings for the West End theaters, your hotel should have plenty of info on what is playing. Don't try to save money by getting the "hour before showtime special". Call the boxoffice a few days in advance and with a seating chart in your hand order the best seats possible. This may be the trip of a lifetime for you and sitting in row E is so much better than nose-bleed ZZ and damn the cost.
Plan well and enjoy one of the great cities of the world.
