To start off, i will put the longest game i've had so far. It took 167 moves (84 w, 83 b) before ending in a draw ( game = Game 365750 vs 365750 mathroug ). I know there will be games with even more moves, but this will start the thread off....

most moves in a game so far... 167 moves

Your game had 84 moves, not 167...🙂

i meant altogether 😕,

most moves in a game = 84 (so far)

So who can beat that? 😉

I can't be bothered to look it up, but I had just over 100 moves in a game with BostonDave, which he finally won. Well done by him!

BostonDave vs royalchicken, 106.5 moves in Game 280181.
I had one lasting 109 moves on World Chess Network, 20-min time control. It was K+R vs K+R, but my opponent wouldn't take the draw because he had 2 minutes left on his clock and I had only 1. He had less than 2 seconds left when my flag fell.
But since this is about RHP games I suppose that's irrelevant.
Now I'm going to bed 😴

A quick scan of my games throws up 75 moves vs Joop506, 80 moves vs Crusoe, and 92 moves vs francoisb (game 206806) - all decisive games, no draws. But I'm sure many of you can beat that.

There were two guys on here once who only had kings left, but neither would accept the inevitable draw. They moved around the board for something like 160 moves. I don't remember the game ID number.

what a waste of time. did it ever finish?

I havent really checked, but is there a feature in the works, or already in place for the 3 move repitition rule.

Also, isnt there such thing as a 50 move draw? Quite a few of my games have been well over 50 moves. The number seems low to me.

the 50 move draw applys only if there have been no pawn moves or captures for 50 moves.

I'm not sure if the 3-fold repetition rule is recognized by RHP yet.

Neither are recognized yet. This game is a good example of the 50 move rule though: Game 198256

Oh yes, and to stay on topic, 141 moves.

Hmmm, I would expect the system to automatically draw this and all other obviousy drawn endings.

SkipSlot is right, this is NOT the case, but if you want to draw the game, send russ a message and we'll have a look at it! and perhaps one day he'll implement all this...

I don't think we should have an automatic award of a draw for a three-fold repetition. The rules are that a player must claim, and if the player doesn't claim, then its not a draw. You can't claim retrospectively, and strictly speaking you have to claim before you make the move which repeats the position (so, you would say something like 'I'm about to play Kh1 which repeats the position 3 times. I therefore claim a draw.'
To have software which recognised this and automatically stopped the game would be contrary to these rules.
We could, though, have software which accepted draw claims and validated them, but that would be trickier to code, I'd imagine.

The software I've seen has a pop up or link that asks:
This games position has repeated itself 3 times, do you want to draw? yes or no

That's not strictly in line with the rules. It is the player's responsibility to know that the position has repeated 3 times and make a claim.
We should really have an option to claim a draw, which the software would validate and confirm and award a draw or reject and let the game continue.
