I LOVE lucid dreams, but I have no power to summon them yet. They are awesome though. I haven't had one in over a decade.

Depending on your age, I recommend three mg of melatonin, taken right before laying down to sleep. You'll love the results.

Actually, there was a major study at MIT on just that subject, and the vitamin counters all over the country sell 3 and 5 mg of melatonin. The only problem with that is, you may have a couple of nights good sleep but after that the body is saturated with the stuff. The actual amount the body produces is less than 1/10th of that amount, we have to talk about MICROgrams, not Milligrams. You cannot absorb more than about 300 micrograms of melatonin and any more than about 500 or so will be more than just a waste, it will cause you to not be able to get any benefit from that hormone.
You realize Melatonin is a hormone, right? It is very powerful but the dose should be considered more along the lines of LSD, a few hundred micrograms. I heard about some higher doses given for some kind of problem kids may have, ADD maybe, and they get 3 or 5 mg, but to get a good night's sleep when you are older, 1/3 of a mg is all it takes and any more will do no good. I did find one brand at CVS Pharmacy that has 300 microgram pills for sale. It really seems strange a major study would have been conducted at a major university and these shyster outfits that make the stuff totally ignore the issue.

At the 300 microgram level, I get a lot of lucid dreams, it is a regular since I started taking it. One thing about them, you can't just say, picture yourself in Tahiti with a couple of choice babes on each arm and a vodka collins in hand looking out over the calm Pacific and order yourself to have that dream. It doesn't work🙂 I know for a fact! Where those dreams come from I can never tell but it sure doesn't have anything to do with your conscious desires.

At a health food store like GNS or a pharmacy like CVS, but don't take 3 milligrams whatever you do, it might work for a night but it is way overkill to take that much.
Before I found the 300 microgram versions I got 1 mg ones and broke off a piece. Sure lasts a long time but you can't get an accurate dose. If you got 3 milligram pills you would have to break them into ten parts to be reliable in the long term, don't think you could do that at all.

BTW, it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to start feeling sleepy on the stuff so just wait for it to start taking effect, read a book, watch an awful tv show, anything to just kill the time for an hour or so. Reruns of the Lawrence Welk show would do it just fine🙂

Also btw, I was a road warrior for 20 years, been in just about every cleanroom between San Jose and Jerusalem working on Ion Implanters and sputtering machines and the like so I know all about those hotels.

Far be it from me to be contentious (ha-ha!) but, at my age--- 46--- I've been taking it in that dosage on and off for 15 years and not experienced the saturation of which you speak. Now, granted, I do not take it religiously, more for a few days on and then off again, but somewhat consistently nonetheless. Maybe it's just my chemical base...

Melatonin eh? Must see if I can get some. I've been doing it by setting my alarm an hour early, getting up and having a glass of water, then going back to sleep. The next hour is a dreamfest, usually three or four. Spend the first ten minutes on waking noting down as much as I can remember about them. I've been doing this for a couple of years now, and have had quite a few lucid ones - estimate about one a month. Mostly once they go lucid I end up flying, which is most excellent.

edit - Apparently it's not licensed for sale in the uk. 😠 Will have to buy some online I guess.

Lucid dreams are fine, but make sure you don't have any skeletons in your closet or you may find yourself in hell. I'm referring to taking certain chemicals or meds to induce such dreams. Lucid dreams are not always about happy things.

GRANNY.

I don't know if it's quite as easy in the UK. In Norway, it's almost impossible to get at all. Not only do you need a prescription, your doctor also needs to file an application to get a special permit (for every single case) in order to be able to prescribe it.

I take melatonin quite often, I split a 3 mg pill in half. Like you said, it is too much.
I tried taking the whole pill every night but I felt really tired after 8 hours of sleep, I could tell it was too much.

I started taking it when I was working the night shift (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and I had a hard time sleeping during the day.

I started taking it again because I wasn't sleeping well and the melatonin gets you into a good deep sleep so you feel a lot better in the morning. I don't think I have lucid dreams, but I do have very vivid dreams.
