Just for teh lulz, I decided to make my own rye and ginger from semi-scratch last night, and it turned out great!
1 oz. Crown Royal
2 tsp grated frozen ginger root
1 tbsp sugar
2 drops real vanilla extract
ice
soda water
Mix the first 4 ingredients well, add 2-3 oz. soda water until fizzy but not too diluted (...of course, if it does get diluted, add more sugar and booze!!), stir and add ice. Enjoy! Feel free to vary the proportions to meed your particular rye and ginger needs.
The homemade ginger mixer is a fantastic substitute for ginger ale, makes the whole thing quite tropical tasting, and takes very little effort to prepare. Cheers! 🙂

(Also feel free to add an extra oz. or two if you're in the mood to the drink itself if you're in the mood. 😉)
Originally posted by PBE6So if you put in an ounce and a half or two and had, oh maybe 2 drinks, you'd not be able to watch your show? Unless you're 12 or have some physical intolerance to alcohol I don't see how that'd constitute "getting blitzed at a kegger(?)".

Originally posted by PBE6We (my family) had wine with dinner and I was introduced to it when I was about 14. In their wisdom they thought it better to do it this way than some of the other options. As it turned out it worked and as a result I did the same with my children and so far (they're in their 20's) the same results. Must be the genes?

I also like to make ginger tea. I boil some water with grated ginger, simmer for some time, strain into a cup and add some honey. A soothing drink. 🙂
