the lack of beaches.
is there anywhere to swim?
Porto Santo is where you want to head to if you're looking for beaches. It's a small island a few kms off Madeira with large sandy beaches and very few people. Christopher Columbus married and lived there for a while.

I'll try to get over there for a day trip or two.
Otherwise I am sure there is plenty of other stuff to do

If you like trekking, however, then there are plenty of nice "levadas" or hiking routes which might keep you busy and hungry for a nice "espetada" in the evening.
I hope you like it there.
Originally posted by emanonIt used to be like that, but some years ago they extended the runway by a full kilometer. They had to build a bridge because the previous runway ended into the sea. 🙂
you can swim in the ocean but you have to be careful for the currents! there's also no beach...just rocks, so be careful about those too!
it's not a rough flight, however, madeira has the shortest runway (?) in the world i believe. it's quite an experience actually! 🙂
