2.upkeep... just a bunhca crap things happen durin' this phase that are caused by certain cards.

3. main... you can do these things in any order
a. play A land
b. cast sorcery cards
c. start combat
1>combat has a buncha stuff
a.asign atackers
b.they asign blockers
c.dammage is delt(to creatures that can die and players)
d.discard(if you have more than 7 cards or nothing preventing this.
e.end your turn

menwhile you can cast instant cards at any time... and bicker about rulings and threaten to kick your opponent in the cooter..

My 5000 card collection isn't the biggest, but i've been handpicking cards off e-bay. Mana drains, Library of Alexandria, Ali from Cairo, Moat, The Abyss, Forcefield, Berserk, etc and the power nine. Had to re-mortgage the house to fund it, not joking!
Worth every penny. Greatest card game of all time.

Sure. The basic idea is that you and your opponent have 20 life points, and you attempt to kill your opponent before he kills you. Alternately, there is another, less common way to win. You are required to draw a card every turn, and if you cannot (because you used up your deck), you lose.

The way you attempt to win is to make a deck of cards (you choose the composition of it out of cards you own). The deck has to be a certain minimum size; either 60 or 40 cards depending on the rules you're going by. The cards come in one of two primary classifications; spells or lands.

You can play one land per turn. Each turn, the land can be used ('tapped'😉 to provide one unit of mana. There are five kinds of mana; White, which is a sort of fantasty Christian sort of magic, with angels, paladins, noble soldiers, healing, protection, etc.; it's major theme seems to be Protection. There's Green, which is a druidic sort of magic, with nature, forests, trees, treants, animals, elves, etc. It's theme is Life, so there are many sorts of powerful living creatures associated with it, as well as healing (White gets to heal because it is close to Green on a circle which goes White-Blue-Black-Red-Green- and then back to White). Green also gets access to lots of extra mana for some reason. Red is the magic of chaotic destruction and is associated with mountains, orcs, goblins, trolls, fire and earth, lightning, blowing up lands, blowing up artifacts, and blowing things up in general; Black is death, demons, undead, rot, fear, etc, and Blue is philosophy, metamagic, counterspells, illusions, minds, the elements of water and air, flight, sea monsters, and similar things.

There's also some cards which are called "colorless". Lands are technically colorless, but there are also Artifacts, which are kind of magical technology like clockwork dragons, runeswords, and the like.

OK, so anyway, the other category of cards besides Lands are Spells. Spells require a certain amount of mana to cast; some of that many is usually required to be of specific colors, and some can be any color. Spells get divided into a number of subcategories; Summons, which conjure monsters that generally stick around until they are killed which can be used to smite your opponent or do other things with; Sorceries, which are powerful spells that you can only cast at a specific time in your turn; Fast Cast spells (Instants and Interrupts for example) which can be cast at any time, including your opponent's turn or in the middle of combat; and Enchantments, which are powerful spells like Sorceries that stick around indefinitely once cast instead of resolving instantly. Some spells do damage, some heal things, some protect things...there are many, many kinds of spells. The card has instructions about what it can do. If a card is a Permanent, like an Enchantment or a Summons, you place it down on the playing surface and it changes from a Spell to a Permanent which has certain characteristics, like fighting or warding off certain kinds of damage.

So you draw 7 cards at the beginning of the game and one more per round after that. You use your cards to kill your opponent. There are so many cards and the interplay between cards gets fairly complex but the basics of the game are pretty simple.

That's the general concept. Xxxenophobe went into detail exactly how a round plays out, so check out his post too if you're interested. There's a beginner set called Portals you can buy for like twenty bucks if you want to try out the game. Beware though...it's known as Magic: the Addiction. I've known people to spend half their paychecks every month on the game. Also it suffers from the flaw that the more you spend the better you are at it, since you have access to more and better cards to put in your deck.

Thats why i couldnt keep up with Type 2 tournies.. but type 1 are boooriiing.. sma ol crap... I like draft games... 3 packs... and a constructed on the fly deck.. takes a good player.. a good consept for a deck... good knowledge of the cards and combinations.. and a lil bit o' luck... obveously.. Draft is the way to learn in the Newb tourney environment.. and you can allways rare draft(take all the rare/uncommons regardless of how good they are) to build a collection to play type 2 with and or sell crappy tuff to noobs.. 🙂 enjoy...

I created the best cycling deck ever to be seen on a multi-player table.
It was dead classic. I had the card that made cycling free. I had 4 boneshredders, lots of cards to swap things out graveyards and what-not.

I never won once with it, but if you counted how many minutes each person at the table was busy doing their "thing", I was busy the longest. Which in my honest opinion means that I got the most enjoyment out of it all 🙂

There are special ways of winning without lowering your opponents life total to zero or below,. They include, 10 poison counters, hitting an opponent with the creature phage the untouchable, cards such as test of endurance, coalition victory and epic struggle, running an opponent out of cards.
i'm sure there are more but when someone gets an infinite life loop going, ( nether shadows! ) then you'd better have a plan B.

I am rather proud of a white artifact deck I built recently. It's all about winning withe the Darksteel Reactor. I don't want to give my secret formula away, but it has a good dose of white "no" power, and artifact counter juggling. I have won in as few as five turns with it, and full life.

Still though, I am proudest of my Goblins deck. I've spent a lot of time on it, made many trades and purchases to fine tune it. Got cards from atleast 75% of the series. If not the buffest deck around, it definitely does some way cool things and is sure to impress for creativity and pure offensive power.

I really haven't been too impressed with the current block. It is very tribal with a few off color creature types. The seudo-Japanes theme isn't to my flavor, and a good many of the cards are only useful when paird with cards from the same set. Of all of the sets in the past ten years, I have spent the least on the current series. Very disappointing in my opinion. The set before it was ok, but a little bold for my tase with the extravagent artifacts. Really, my favorite block in recent years was Onslaught. I still pucharse from that set to this day. Lots of flavor and mechanics in that one.

I used to play Magic a lot, but I always played it stoned. So, I had the tendency to lay down a card and then pick it back up saying: "Uhhsdfdk hdkjf sorry..."

Eventually it was called: "Doing a Marky."

What this has got to do with the card you want, I do not know. If you really, really want, I can phone a friend and ask him what it's worth.
Hahahah! Very funny (especially cause we both know it's true). 🙂
