After a train accident that took place here in Amsterdam a week ago (casualties: 0), politicians started to demand safer public transport. Which is ridiculous because train accidents rarely happen and the 1,000,000,000 euros that an improved safety system would cost could be spent with a much greater yield in other areas. Of course, politicians know this, but this way they get to show their 'social' face without having to put money where their mouths are. More votes next elections!
But that's not my point. I also read in the newspaper (in response to the aforementioned demands) that Psychology research has shown that people are 1,000 times more willing to take a risk when they are in control themselves, than when someone else is.
All this brings me to my suggestion: pull those daredevil pilots from their cockpits and strap 'em to a passenger seat. That measure alone should increase the safety of flying by a factor of 1,000.
I guess this may be funny (only?) if you're really, really drunk.
