I bet some of your cacti need some care. You can do that while you wait. I will be very busy this week repotting half of my collection...

What kind do you have? My greenhouse is loaded with Echinoacti and Ferocacti. There will be a day I will tremble right upon one of those and get pierced.

I think it's just a bog standadrd mamillaria. I got a cutting off my friend which was about 1cm high when I was 11 an it's just kept on getting bigger.
I used to have a few more but they either fell by the way side or just died off. :'(

Yes, they can die very well on you, I know.

I had one that just turned to mush. It was like a green stalk with like a star shaped cross section. It had a big bright red spiky ball on top. I had an easter cactus to. That just decided to die. I didn't change anything, it just went. And the one I have at the moment got a dose of meally bugs so I just blocked up the hole on it with blue tack and picked off the fluffy coccon things and it survived.

Oh dear, that sounds like a Gymnocalycium 'Red Top'. They are supposed to be dead, in my opinion. Those who thought of this graft should be put down too. Uncrafted Gymnocalycia are nice, though...

The greatest risk a succulent plant can walk is too regular water. You can throw them in the ocean if you would like to, but don't give them water until the soil is all dried out. Maybe you have had some bad experiences with too much [regular] watering?

Aren't Easter cacti supposed to die, so that they can be resurrected on Easter?
