My wife and I have always had large dogs, 80-120 pounds or so over the past 30 years, but now that we're semi-retired in a small, modest home , we just got a 12 pound miniature poodle.
At first I was opposed to the idea, but they're kind of cute and friendly, very calm, take up no space, and will alert us at night if they hear anything in order to give me the opportunity to grab the big-o firearm I keep in the nightstand so's I can blow away any bad guys.
Nuttin' wrong with the miniature poodles. Now the toy poodles, that's another story. They're as big as a chihuahua, nervous as a rat, and suck.

Just don't give the little critters a "poodle cut", they look gay as hell. My wife did that and now I got this faggy looking thing with ribbons in it's hair. Can't wait for it's fur to grow back out.

I'll bet you'd look right at home walking my little ribbon haired poodle, fag.

Don't see why you'd complain about the last one.

I dont' mind small dogs if they are non-yappy and somewhat intelligent...but I've lived around dogs (showing, breeding, racing) and I have yet to find one with the two previously mentioned requirements!!

My list of potential dogs:

Doberman
Akita
Komondor
American Eskimo
Canaan
Chinese Foo
Noweigan Elkhound
Belgian sheepdog
Anatolian Shepard

There are a few others but I have to do a little more research. Poodles apparently don't make good attack dogs.

American Eskimos are a little weird, can't be trusted around small children or strangers, I don't recommend them unless you have a lot of personal liability insurance. The two I've been around were nuts.

They're usually too busy sucking their owners.

They also have a gas-huffing problem.

They seem alright to me. Sometimes crazy dogs are simply a reflection of their crazy owners.

I'm not a big fan of dogs. I'd much prefer a fish. No noise, less cost on food, and they won't ruin the carpeting.
