So every time I get my rating up (it's been "as high" as 1580) I lose games and drop back into the 1450-1500 range.

Is it just that i suck, or is it more complicated than that?

Try not losing any more games. That should help your rating ๐Ÿ˜‰

If 1450-1500 sucks what adjective would my rating, 948, garner?

it's the 3 steps forward, 4 steps back that sucks, not the numerical rating.

True enough but I've had my time for studying and I don't take chess seriously enough to warrant the time to study it. So my rating is where it should be given my chess ability and that's fine with me.
