it's only common sense isn't it?
ok. it's only a game. but it's important for us. the reason behind moderators is that we want to have some sense of fairness. absolutely.
so lets be fair all the way. what are rules?
you see. take Iron Man. he his the top player around here.
now analise his moves, ok?
lets say 10 opening moves by the book.
2 or 3 combinations to gain material, 3 moves each. (i'm sure a chess program would have the same opinion)
the building up for a check mate, another 4 or 5 moves.
the game ends on the 21st move. (not unusual for him)
now get FRITZ. the bloddy program thinks that all the moves were correct.
is he a cheater?
what knowledge have i to say that?
do you understand what i mean?
the better you play, the more likely your moves coincide with those chess programs. where do you cross the line?
what is amazing is some graphs i've seen of some players, going down, down, slowly down, and then a sudden peak, even against players rated 200 points above them. well, where does it come from?
but how the hell can you prove it?
i suggest top players, and top players only, would have a saying about this. a kind of a trial. asking questions like: this is a brilliant move, what is the thought behind it?
if your only answer is "intuition" then by now you should be world champion.
on the other side, ask those players who make a thousand moves a day, the reasons behind a particular move and they can not give a satisfactory answer? what do you do? banned them?
so its a sensitive area and needs some thinking, action and transparency.

But to answer your concerns... You see, just matching moves with a computer isn't enough. These are the things that are needed for the game moderators:
* Every game moderator team MUST have a copy of every up-to-date chess playing program on the market.
* Every moderator should be of Class A strength or above so that they understand the moves played.
* Every game moderator team requires training in the field of computer assisted moves.
* Every game moderator team needs to have access to files which may not be available to the regular members.
Once a team is trained, has the software they need, and are willing to do the work, they can make a big difference.

So explain me why Phlabibit has been chosen, having an average rating of 1400.
I committed to this because I wanted to contribute something to RHP. I was never supposed to be one of the moderators... <sigh>
So, here's my thinking...
All I really care about is that RHP continues to be a good site to play chess. If I can help with that, fine. If the site does't need me, that's even better! But I did make the committment to help before everything became public and that's all I know.
i think this is a brilliant site. brilliant by all means. interface, speed, quality, features, you name it.
i let you in a secret. if you don't believe just think that i wouldn't need to say this if it wasn't true. the very first (and only) time i gave my credit card details over the net, was to pay for the RHP subscription.
just to show how i felt that life wouldn't be the same without it.
now i'm on board, i'll give my contribution to its improvement.
contribuition and participation.
allow me a joke: RHP is to good to be left to its founders. 🙂
