Well, if another book stopped the bullet I would have taken that one...

Horrific experience for the young woman. Going to jail for years still worse..And the children...

I Support the stance of yours: read books instead of shooting guns!

I seem to remember William Burroughs (Naked Lunch among others) shooting a gun at an apple on his wife's head William Tell style. Drunk of course.She died.
Think he got off. And that was in the 50's long before the interweb.
