Even if you delete things they are still on there and can be found using special software.

Do Not do THAT

Here is what I think you need to find. (Internet Explorer)
Alt T (tools)
Internet Options
General
Browsing History (Delete temporary files, history, cookies, saved passwords, and web form information)

ok, so i have done this, so now if i pull the plug on the internet for this and leave the laptop nobody can see?
there are some hidden folders in older versions of windows that will contain duplicate web history info.
The problem is that when you delete using the Internet explorer "tools" tab, you are only deleting the information from within the Internet explorer folder in your C Drive.
I would open windows explorer the open C drive, and open the temp folder and delete anything you don't need there. Then go back to C Drive, open Windows folder, and look for more temp folders or history type folders and delete those.
The folders may not be visible so you will have to go to the setting that says "show hidden files" (sorry i forget how to do this) and it will show you the hidden files.
**edit. Also remember, anyone can install recovery software and "undelete" everything you've done. If you truly want to get rid of your tracks you can purchase file erasing software, or reformat the hard drive.
