This site has such a "community" feel to it, it always disappoints me
when I click on a player's name and don't get to find out anything
about him/her. (And yes, the fact that I'm posting this is an indicator
that today is my day off, and I have way too much time on my
hands...😉 It's a zillion degrees and humid outside, but I may have to
head out to Harvard Square in Cambridge and see how I fare in some
speed chess against the truly eccentric folks that hang out there.
There's one guy that charges two bucks to play against him, $18
bucks an hour for a lesson, and he smokes cigars the whole time.
That may be part of why he never loses-- his opponents are too busy
choking and wiping the tears from their eyes. Actually, I saw him lose
once, to a guy that didn't speak a word of English. He tried to
converse in his own language (Eastern European, that's all I know),
with no success, so he sat down, paid his two bucks, kicked the guy's
ass with the black pieces (!), and walked off, all in total silence. It
was a moment, I tell ya. (My ex-girlfriend used to go CRAZY when we
would go to Harvard Square, because she wanted to shop and walk
and people-watch and do all those things that people do in Harvard
Square, and I would stand and watch the chess-players until she
literally dragged me away.
Hmm... looking at this post, I'm thinking it's time to switch to decaf...

That sounds like fun, Tim. Reminds me of "Searching for Bobby
Fischer."
