This is a f@cking brilliant game!

I have all the expansions, which are also fantastic. My advice to you would be:

1) Run and jump everywhere, the more you do it, the faster you'll get.
2) Improve your magical resistance first as this will come in handy later on, it depends on what character you are, but this will save your butt more times than not in a fight.
3) Do not kill guards unless you want to improve your sneaking ability in which case you can refuse to pay a fine and spend some time in jail which will enhance the darker side 🙂 Beware, all you other stats will fall though.
4) If you don't want to pay for anything, try starting a fight with the shopkeeper, if he hits you first you can kill him and orb him blind and all in the legal name of self defense.
5) Don't go in the water at the start of the game, fish bite and you can't hold your breath for long
6) Steal steal steal, the more you do , the better you get, but make sure that each time you succeed, you place the items in a safe place, because next time you get caught, the police will take back anything you have previously stolen.
7) Buy the Bloodmoon expansion, being a werewolf rocks 🙂

That should keep you going for the moment, if you want to know anything specific just ask. The game is enormous and totally convincing. The best one player RPG I have ever played. Have fun and let me know how you go 🙂

This is indeed one of the best games ever, what do you want to know?

Best place to start is Balmora, join a guild (or more) and get yourself some money. Upgrade your tools and start walking from one town to another (Suran, Vivec, Ald'ruhn. G'nisis if you really want to go far away). You can go with the Mages Guild or the Silt Strider service, but if you want to get better quick, walking is better.

O.

Specs please?

Have you defragged prior to installation?

Make sure there are no extraneous processes running.

It is, indeed, a fantastic game and the best computer RPG I've ever played. I'd suggest getting your character up to at least level 10-15 before becoming a vampire though - it's difficult to really do much once you become one, although you get massive stat and skill boosts when you do you cannot complete the main quest or use most trainers etc as the only people that'll talk to you are other vampires, the Mages guild, and the Telvanni.

Oh, and if you didn't know, the Elder Scrolls 4 - Oblivion is scheduled for release next year.

OK, sorry to reply so late...

Theives Guild hates me...I attacked first.

Fighters Guild won't have me...killed the person necessary for the first quest.

Mage's Guild...in Caldera, took a Master Alchemy Set (full, worth about 5000 each...tried to sell it to the guy who owned it. 😛

Imperials won't have me...spent too much time in jail.

I buggered up, bad. I gotta start again....

I dunno wether I should actually give Fargoth his ring or not, in Seyda Neen. He doen't give you anything, and the ring is great, especially for a first level character. Any suggestions?

It will pale in insignificance to the stuff you'll get later, on with the quest!

OK...I'm a hoarder, so I usually keep anything I think is valuable. I never even finished the quest where you give 300 gold to the guy who wants Fargoth's hiding place...I bought armour instead.

My greatest advice for Morrowind newbies. Do not listen to others when they tell you to kill tons of innocent ppl senselessly and you pettily take their stuff. Many, if not all, of these innocent characters are part of, and help you, do quests with great rewards, and if you kill them, you cannot do these quests. Some of these characters may seem unimportant at first, but as your character gains experience, they offer quests dependant on the situation, nothing is routine with Morrowind. Kill the ppl you are SUPPOSED TO KILL, ie, bandits, evil ppl, creatures, etc, but if you kill innocents who you may need for a quest, they cannot come back, this isn't like Grand Theft Auto or Fable where they simply respawn, it's like real life, if you kill someone important, you cannot talk to them anymore or use them or do business with them, lol.

If you really are guilty of the following already, like most newbies are, I suggest simply restarting.

this is an awesome game, which I was thoroughly addicted to earlier in the year. There a some old threads in the 'Meet Opponents' forum as well regarding this. My advice is to do a bunch of the early guild quests initially- this will introduce you to the world, as well as build you up some cash and goods. Then, at about level 15-20 just go off and do some explorin' and adventurin' - plunder some caves, kill some bandits, annoy some wizards - that kind of thing. Then go back and finish the guild and main quests.

From what I remember of my character (Sir Dougie - Redguard Adventurer) I was head honcho of the Redoran House, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, Imperial Legion, Imperial Cult and the Assassin Dudes who live in Arena (but whose name I can't remember) and had completed the main quest. I then got the two expansion packs, but had to force myself to stop playing as it was seriously affecting my social and educational life!!

It's unimportant in the longer scheme of the game, but, if you give him the ring back, he gets you in favour with the shopkeeper in seeda (which makes your early purchases cheaper) and if you do the quest to discover his hiding place you get the ring back anyway. (I think, or a ring at any rate)
