A senior police officer on Christmas Eve described a deadly shooting attack outside a pub in Liverpool which killed one person and wounded several others as RECKLESS. The police officer also said that the murder was UNPALATABLE because it happened on Christmas Eve.

Do you have any other interesting examples of obtrusively inappropriate words in certain situations?

Can't think of any specific cases at the moment, although I do believe some news writers and headline writers have been corrupting the English language (the first with their poor grasp of standard written English; the second with their unwarranted sensationalism -- and their editors deserve a smack-down not just for their text-related failures as editors, but also for allowing and even promoting the inflation of minor and inconsequential disagreements into putatively headline-worthy stories).
