I will lock your numbers in a room with even numbers and let them multiply if I don't get at least a clue! Also, I can't do alt codes here in the forum -- I tried that when I was trying to write in Spanish.😳

It's the same in IE, so it's not the Firefox's fault. How felonious!

Open word or something similar. Then open the window with all the special characters (from the insert menu) and click them. They will appear in your document. Now, copy and paste them here.

Geez mum, a five month baby could do this. πŸ˜›πŸ˜€

He was really clever about the underlined letters though. They're not actually underlined. The line below is overlined. Clever. πŸ™‚

You don't need to go via Word or something similar. Just open the "character map" or whatever it may be called in English ("tegnkart" in Norwegian), choose the characters you want to use, copy them and insert them here.

But if they're not in the ascii range, they will show up as HTML escape codes.

Yes, but you can see them when you reply and quote. Is there a way to see in the tegnkart what will show up correctly and what won't?

Only characters mapping to the character set iso-8859-1 show up properly. That would be the first 128 characters in that map (which also correspond to the ascii-table). Then the characters between 129-255 may show up as intended depending on the character set used. Above 255 are unicode chars so they'll most likely only show up as HTML escape codes here.

I think this site should change it's encoding to UTF-8. That way any character in the unicode table (well, enough characters) can be represented (chinese, japanese, persian, arabic, hebew and so on and so forth).

I use Open Office too. It works perfectly for me. But remember, only the first 128 characters can be represented here (at least now), and possibly the next 127.
