once upon a time, in 1973,
i was on a flight from paris to new york...
we had been in the air for an hour or two when the news floated around the plane that muhammed ali was in first class on the same flight!!!
when the champ found out that everyone on board knew he was present, he came thru the cabin and shook everyone's hand, that cared to acknowledge him...
even as i got to shake his hand, and be in the presence of greatness, i also witnessed crass and unflinching racism as several fat, white men called him cassius clay and refused to even offer a hand...
but mostly, i remember the size of the hand that engulfed mine...
and his smile, in the face of bigotry, and the glow that seemed to come from his heart...
rest in power, mr ali...
say hi to prince for me...

Sickest sport evah.
