Here in New England you can use it for both genders, not sure if it is the same anywere else.
Walk into a party full people and you can say, "Hi, guys!".

Here you wouldn't use "guy" at all. If you walk into a party, you could say something like "hei, folkens".

Maybe at the North Pole your supposed to say something like "Hi Guys and Dolls, Elves and Reindeer and a very fine evening Mr. & Mrs. Claus."
