First of all, it depressed and angered me when I went to the forums
today and saw all this B.S. about Dave and "cheating." Miss Take is
rather sensitive about the subject. She challenged me to a game a
while back, and I deleted the game, with what I thought was a politely
worded message about having been burned by program users, and
preferring not to play against people who do not have an established
history here. She responded rather rudely (in my opinion), upset that
I had "called her a cheat" (which I had not), and adding that if I
deleted the game, she would never play me again. (She also accused
me of being afraid of losing to a girl, which I will not even comment
upon....) After reading today's posts, I would say that she is correct--
we will NOT play against each other. Nor will I allow her rudeness to go
unremarked.
She may, indeed, be an excellent chess player. But she has a great
deal to learn about manners, interpersonal relationships, and
correspendence chess, not necessarily in that order.
I know, I know-- i should just shut up and keep my opinions to
myself. But I've had a bad week, and my tolerance for bullsh-t is
extremely low right now.
Think about why you're here playing chess, and not someplace else,
doing something else. Then behave accordingly.
End of rant.

this is tricky though. You appear to be working on a "presumed guilty"
premise. If someone has insufficient history on here then you won't
play them because they might be using a program and you'll let other
people find that out. The real problem that this engenders is that RHP
develops cliques of players who to the outsider appear not to admit
new members. I understand why, but feel that it is a shame.
I agree-- it IS a shame. And I felt that my message to mistake when
I refused her challenge to me expressed that. I don't LIKE the
situation, where newcomers are automatically suspect of being
program users-- especially if they are, in fact, just really good players
who have won ever game they've played so far. But I've lost as many
as 40, ratings points to admitted (after the fact) program users--
points that I busted my ass to earn. I'm not asking that people leave
the site just because they haven't established a history, NOR am I
accusing THEM of being program users. I'm just being selective about
who I play. Newcomers to this site should have NO trouble finding a
game-- every time I see an "open invite" posted, it is accepted in a
matter of hours, or less.
Personally, I think the whole subject should be just about dead now.
Let's all get back to playing chess, and let each individual use
whatever standards they care to apply as to WHO they play against. I
have never intended to offend anyone at this site, and I hope that I
have not.
Peace.
