This is to anyone who speaks a language other than English: What are the pieces called in that
language, and if they mean anything outside of chess, what do they mean? I know that in
German, for instance, the pawns are "farmers" (Bauern) and you have "runners" (Läufer) and
"jumpers" (Springer) instead of bishops and knights.

In Dutch (or Flamish) its as follows : pawn = pion (is farmer), knight =
paard (horse), bishop = loper (runner), rook = toren (tower),
opponent = tegenstander and me = winner 🙂
