At some point in the next few hours, I will be bringing the web server
down in a rather ugly manner. You may simply get no response from
RHP - not even a nice warning message. When this happens, the
next time you see RHP should be on the new server. I have moved
all the code across and am just moving over the code of some of my
less popular sites (www.chrismo.com, www.hole20.com and
www.quizmo.co.uk - which between them get probably less than 1% of
the activity that RHP gets, but nonetheless, they've gotta come along
for the ride as well!)

Just coincidence, I'm afraid!
I took the server down, copied all the data to the new server and
was in the process of finishing it off when I realised that the old server
(the one to which I'm writing this post) had come back up of its own
accord; the irony!
The archived games will be building up again since I deleted them -
but the ones I deleted have not yet been reinstated.
I wish it were true, but we're not quite there yet!!
Having spoken to our web hosts, it will happen like this...
1) I have placed a placeholder page on the new server saying RHP is
being upgraded, you are viewing this page on the new server
2) Our hosts have modified their DNS entries to point to the new
server; these need to propogate. Some of you will see the new site
before others - this is why I had to put a placeholder page there.
3) When the change propogates to myself, I will bring down the old
server for good, copy the database across, and remove the
placeholder page.
In case you're wondering, this wouldn't be such a convoluted
procedure if it weren't for the fact that the server has a new IP
address. In theory, we could have kept the old address, but this was
the easier option.
I am shattered (had three hours tennis tonight unexpectedly and only
three hours sleep last night and a long day at work, and now this!) -
so I gotta go to bed - so nothing is going to happen in the next eight
hours unfortunately. I kinda hoped I'd get it done tonight but I'm
spent.
