One of my computers has been infected with something so that when I sign on the Internet I keep getting directed to dozens of online shopping sites. Does anybody know what this is or how to remove it? The computer guy at work is stumped.

First of all,
I would run a scan like Malwarebytes:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Then run an online scan like Housecall:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/
If you still have a problem check back here for further suggestions.
The above are free.
Theres also a program called HijackThis which will scan and save a log which you should show to someone who is qualified to analyze them. There are many computer help forums on the net who will do that for you. [Warning: it is not advisable to try doing it yourself unless you know exactly what you are doing]

Can i make a suggestion to everybody who posts on here involving web based computer problems. Chances are what you are experiancing is somekind of malware problem, be it spyware, adware, viruses, trojans blah blah blah.
If you are having trouble goto this link.
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/
Register with majorgeeks it is totally free and follow their guide for "Malware removel"
Scrool down three threads and click on "run and read me first". Follow these instructions.
Secondly i think "the computer man at work" may have lied on his CV.

contrary to the other post, you do not have a virus, a virus doesnt react in this way...
a system restore wont remove a virus and by most chances wont remove spyware either, it is a self contained program and system restore will not remove files
Problem resolved.
System Restore would not work because the malware deleted all the restore points.
I could not access any of the suggested sites because when I signed on the net, I was redirected to other sites and Yahoo would not load. I finally downloaded the removal programs on another computer then transferred them to a CD then copied them on my HD and ran them.
BTW, it wasn’t my wife’s fault…I picked something up searching for Pocono resorts.
Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions…may you gain 100 rating points.

All you have to do is click update once a week and you should stay malware free for a long time. I have been using this program for a few years now and have not had a problem since ive been using it.
Of course no program can guarantee that you will be 100% protected, but their a few really good free programs out there which will help you on your way.
