three people each with £10 go buy a tv which is £30
but the guy they buy it off in the shop realises its ment to be £25
so he gives £5 in £1 coins to a boy to go give to the people
they realise they cant share this equally so they take £3
an give £2 to the boy. this means they have spent £9
3*9=27 plus the 2 to the boy =29
were is the other pound?

3 * 10 = 30

25 / 3 = 8.333333333333....

8.333333333333.... + 1 = 9.3333333333....

they actually all spent 9.3333333333....

3 * 9.333333333333.... = 28

no missing pound.

this is not right. they spent a TOTAL of 27: 25 on the tv and 2 to the boy.

if you had been using Cdn $ you wouldn't have this problem.
our $ is much more cooperative than those belonging others who try to colonize us.

look at rich's answer and view the situation from the spenders' perspective
the 30 is 'transitory'

ps ... or when you give back the 3 it reduces the 30 to 27, right? so they spend 25 for the tv and the boy runs off with 2

You counted the £2 to the boy twice. That's how you make this illogical.

Once in the 3x9 and again when you say "plus the 2 to the boy"

yawn yawn
