Tell me more...

but let's cut through the architecture mumbo jumbo, and take a peak at how the processors stack up against each other:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts-update-1/3DMark-Vantage-1.0.2-CPU,1398.html
too bad tomshardware doesn't carry a comprehensive chart for ALL processors anymore, but I think the 2009 update is close enough to our purposes. (I didn't try that hard though, skimmed through 4 or 5 benchmark tests only...)
after clicking around several cpu-intensive tests, I didn't find a SINGLE case of an i5 outperforming an i7. add to that the cost argument, and there's no reason to 'buy the fiat'. buy the cheap ferrari, it's a steal.
that is all.

Originally posted by hopscotchI don't follow the hardware closely these days. I thought all i7's support triple channel?

I'm really just going to use this computer to surf the interwebz and watch video on my TV.And you're bringing out benchmark statistics. Obviously, OBVIOUSLYYYYY a Core i7 is going to be faster than a Core i5. But does PBE6 really need an expensive Core i7? No.
PBE6, please have a look over here:
