New Forum Format

Hi,

This weekend I am going to start rewriting the forums. Don't know about you,
but when I try to read them I end up getting frustrated with the number of
clicks I have to make to follow a thread, and the time it takes to catch up
with them each day.

The format I like best is used in the following site

This allows a number of threads to be started, but each reply is simply a
direct reply to the thread, allowing optionally for parts of other messages to
be quoted using [QUOTE][/QUOTE] tags.

The big benefit here is that you can get a screen full of posts all at once.
I'll also be adding a "Boss Mode" so that all you get is a screen full of
innocent looking text...

Excellent! I much prefer that format for the forums-- looking forward

Yes a better format will be much appreciated - but just one thing....
most forums have symbols or names which change depending on how
many postings a person has made. I suppose the logical thing for a
chess forum would be Pawn for newbies right the way up to King - or
should that be Queen? There would of course be an arguement about
whether Bishops are better than knights. But if this sort of thing does
get implemented.... don't tell Vaksno ;-)

Yep - we will certainly do something like that. But I thought everyone
knew that knights were better than bishops, because they can jump
over things and bishops can't. 8-)

Well if you do and you make it a prerequisite that people register
before they can post - you could have male/female tick boxes on the
registration form so that the ladies could have the white pieces and go
from pawns to queens and we males would end up as kings.

Thats a v-bulletin forum.
V-bulletin is loaded with features and hacks.
some of the stuff we have on it at CivFanatics:

Avatars
Private messaging
tags such as url,img etc
different forum styles
Too much to list really.

Webmasters like cuz its very easy to tweak.

I think you'll like the effect it will have on your site 😀
