@petewxyzsaid Tragically true battlefield triage (where hospitals will find themselves if we don't control spread properly) involves division into three categories.
1. You have a reasonable chance of making it on your own so we won't use our limit resources in your case.
2. You have a reasonable chance of making it if you are prioritised for our limited resources
3. Your chances of m ...[text shortened]... feel confident that they did what had to be done by any reasonable professional in their situation.
To sum it up if it comes between a 20 year old and 60 year old the 20 year old is getting the ventilator. Just making a long story shorter! Providing no other medical issues with either patient other than the Covid-19.

not always
a 20 year old gang banger vs a 60 year old teacher
no question in my mind who gets the ventilator
but thankfully, I'll never have to make that choice

Nothing to do with what person does lemon. Do you believe that comes into the discusssion? It is who has the best chance of surviving.

Perhaps making it shorter by overlooking the consideration of the emotional experience of the real human beings involved. I suspect at this stage category 3 is usually more about leaving the very elderly in care homes to their fate rather than offering admission, but the level of cut off will alter through time and will be significantly more extreme than that already in the worst hit areas.
Edit: I don't say that lightly, my parents are in their 90s and live in a care home.

It has already hit the senior care homes over here. People are wondering if they should take their healthy parents out until this is over. Think about it hitting a prison population. you have the same small confinement area, even smaller in their case. How do you go about keeping everyone seperated?

Makes sense where possible but in cases of severe dementia etc it gets harder. I feel for the carers who put so much of themselves into caring for their residents only to potentially manage everybody at once through what does not sound to be the best way to go. I suspect it will be an awful lot harder to barrier nurse the confused and it will probably be done with more limited equipment by some of the lowest paid workers in our society.
@wolfgang59said Is stating the obvious your forte?
Is stalking me your favourite activity? 😛 😉
Perhaps you should get back to the topic of the thread now?
You are flying the U.K. flag you sould KNOW what happens in these cases where the P.M. can not do his duties!
