About this time last year, I made a few resolutions and posted them in the "New Year Resolutions" thread.

Here they are again:

1. Not to give up smoking.
2. Not to stop drinking beer and Wild Turkey.
3. Not to try to do things which I know I will never finish or complete, or which are rather impossible for me to do (like giving up smoking, drinking, shagging girls on the side and not telling any of my wives, etc, etc.).
4. Play more chess.
5. To do things on impulse when I feel like it.

Well, I nearly gave up smoking in January, and that lasted 8 months.
I also nearly stopped drinking at least once a day until about the end of August. In fact, on some days I didn't drink at all, but I can't say that I really tried to stop, other than to go for a p;ss or to sleep.
I haven't done anything which was impossible for me this year, either, nor even tried to.
And I did lots of things on impulse when I felt like it (like smoke, drink, and many other kinds of stuff.)

So, it's that time of year again. Time to make a list of things which you say you will abstain from, but end up doing anyway; the list of goals you set for yourself and by the middle of September realise that you haven't a snowman's hope in hell of reaching; The dreams you wish to come true (by some miracle) before the year is out...

So, here's my list, with a couple of caveats:
(a) Some of them don't depend on me, so I won't be at fault if they don't happen.
(b) Some of them are things that other people want, so I'm not taking them seriously, either.
(c) And some are jokes, so you shouldn't take them seriously...

1. To give up smoking. [(b) applies here...]
1a. To try to stop smoking.
2. To drink less beer. [(b) also...]
2a. To try to reduce the amount of alcohol I consume daily/weekly.
3. To go to the gym at least twice a week. [(b) again...]
3a. To make an effort to reduce weight and get healthier.
4. To stop take things seriously and keep my promises. [(c) obviously...]
5. To spend next Christmas with Yuko in England. [(a)]

What are your New Year Resolutions? Did you make any last year, and how long did they last?
