Notation

Why did they change the chess notation from the old style?
It bugs me because I think its easier to read the old way.

Ex. Old: Ex. New
P-KB4 a4

One of the main reasons is ,algebraic notation is clearer in that every square is the same for both white and black.
For example,in descriptive notation, white's King 4 square ,is black's King 5 square.Both are e4 in algebraic.
Although descriptive notation has a certain nostalgic appeal.
