Observations From 35,000 Feet
Past weekend in the TN Valley was instructive. Reflecting on my brief (unauthorized) foray into the RHP Public Forums, this much is clear:
(1) The general forum reminds me of a sandwich shop. Modestly rated players often provide informed, insightful and entertaining posts.
Highly rated members often contribute little more than mean spirited invective, unashamedy touting their own well practised cleverness.
The general forum is usually avoided by the wisest members of all. (2) So much for the bread. With rare exception, what passes as meat
is frequently little more than warmed over ersatz or a reconstituted juvenile pablum. Quality conversation and worthwhile entertainment
are the exception rather than the rule. There's a good reason why. Pedestrian fare accomodates the acquired tastes of the daily lunch
counter crowd. (3) Chess Only Forum represents the real deal dining room. You're always guaranteed a well prepared, nourishing, complete
meal. (4) Balance of the forums resemble specialized cafeteria style buffets. One exception is Announcements, which dispenses timely
information pills to all in need. Absolute freedom of choice is one of many nice things about the way Russ & Chris have designed the site.
GB said I could do two more threads between Labor Day and yearend. Cashing in my Thanksgiving Chip today. See you around Christmas.
