What a powerful film the French have given us. Such questions. I love this time of the year when the foreign movies come to our theaters. They are so much more impressive in many ways. They don't haev the special effects but otherwise American films don't approach them.

Special effects are the greatest handicap the movie industry has ever seen.

His performance in "JCVD " was a revelation. Literally brought me to tears by his soliloquy.

Lightweights.

FMF if you were an American I'd call you typical.

So where do you see the foreign films mostly? I get so tired of going to the Valley Art in Tempe.

You thought Claude Van Damme's performance in "JCVD " was lightweight?

The Camelview Five is the best local venue. Tempe as you mentioned and sometimes the Shea 101 (Scottsdale and Shea).

I confess, I have no idea what JCVD even is.

I have no liking for Claude Van Damme's films - I would rather think that my taste in films makes me a 'heavyweight'! 😀 But in "JCVD" he, er... plays himself in a, um... story where, er stuff happens and er... And his performance - as FreakyKBH said - is almost bafflingly accomplished and the whole Belgiumness of the film is really quite captivating. JCVD are his initials, btw.

Here is my American prescription for ya. Do what I did: watch the film with a mindset that any thinking person carries when considering a Van Damme movie, namely, here comes a load of crap. Let your superiority wash gently over you, lulling you to a comfortable but lofty place of intellectual greatness, and from that vantage point, judge-judge-judge that cretin... pausing only long enough from your just sentence to hear his pitiful plea.

My self-righteousness was never so bitter.

Cool, thanks, I'll keep an eye on them.
