On this date in 1912, the British ocean liner RMS Titanic hit an iceberg near midnight in the North Atlantic and sank two hours and forty minutes later. More than 1,500 people died, making it one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters ever.

Could there have been enough lifeboats to save all the people?
@torunnsaid Could there have been enough lifeboats to save all the people?
The ship was only carrying enough lifeboats for half the passengers. It went down with more than 1,000 people on board. Most of those who jumped into the water didn't survive.
On this day 2019, Notre Dame in Paris is severely damaged
by fire. President Trump offers advice on how to put the
fire out by dumping water from helicopters. The
Parisien Fire Service thankfully ignore his advice.

I learned about that. Would there have been space enough for lifeboats to all?

I think the Titanic was made in Belfast despite it's maiden voyage setting off from Liverpool, but there is a lot of info about it in Liverpool's Maritime Museum. From memory the shipbuilders were so invested in the belief that they had built the unsinkable ship that numbers of life boats were chosen more with decorative appearance in mind as opposed to any reference to numbers of people on board!!

It would have lalready helped if they had put as many persons into the boat as the capacity had been… That is part of the tragedy which Shows the Major Problem with "class"
