Do you enjoy using these or find them a waste of time? I like the opportunity to give a review on a retailer or services in a restaurant if it’s been good and also use them if I’m planning to buy something. I’ve recently used ‘best product’ reviews by the Telegraph for walking boots, a kettle and food processor. The kettle started to emit steam near the switch π«

@drewnogal saidOf Course it is mixed. There are very good reviwes with a lot of interesting Facts online...and there are those online Reviews not worth the Electric power used to Display them.

@drewnogal saidNow that's a switch. Who'd have thunk eh?

@great-big-stees saidIt was a Cookworks kettle and a good deal for a kettle that was fairly cheap yet boiled within 3.5 mins which is kind of quick. My good friend Mr X, an elctrical engineer advised me NOT to accept a replacement in the same product saying it must have been a design fault so ...... what did I do? Yep ..... got the same cheaper kettle to save money π€

So, if you hear of my demise from electrocution you know why.
@drewnogal saidMan...I mean woMAN, you are a risk taker. That surprises me. I'd have thought you'd have built a fire in your backyard and had an "old style" kettle hanging from a tripod you'd made from some "found" metal, instead of some newfangled contraption. π

@drewnogal saidi review as much and as often as i can for important things that aren't bought regularly
Do you enjoy using these or find them a waste of time?
recent reviews by moi include a couple of battery powered tools, a dog mattress, and a pair of boots that i found extremely comfortable right outta the box
one of my flaws at reviewing bought items is the "update" that would inform potential customers of things i found after owning/using an item for a period of time
i very rarely update any of my ramblings
except of course, the updates about my own failures of reviewing, which, for some, are entertaining
even more entertaining than explosive kettles?
not so much
@rookie54 saidI always enjoy your posts especially if you correct someone else's grammar with your own being horrible! π Nicest thing I could think of saying off the top of my head.

@drewnogal saidI find Amazon reviews to be worse than useless; I suspect many are fake.

@rookie54 saidGood point on the updates. I must mention that leaky switch.

I too looked up dog mattresses as I have a new rescue dog. I then made an extension to the bed I was given when I initially fostered her with an old king sized duvet and a couple of sofa cushions. She gave me a 5* review for it π
@earl-of-trumps saidThat’s true, not all of them are manipulated of course and I think that if you want an honest review just read the ones that rank it 2-4 stars, most of them will have both negative and positive and are unlikely to be fake.
Well, you have to be careful.
Sometimes, hired influencers write up reviews, and sometimes competitors do likewise.
I remember when crowdfunding came out. I googled which had the best platform.
The first top-ten list I read never even mentioned GoFundMe or KickStart.
So there ya go.
Trip advisor is another one that’s so easy to manipulate, knew a restaurant owner in Peru, grumpy English twit with over priced average food but would consistently be in the top 5 restaurants despite a good number of average to bad reviews saying just that, complaining about the service and over priced mediocre food but yet reading through the reviews some said it was ‘The best curry they had ever tasted’. Didn’t take a genius to figure out that they were fake knowing the place but what can you do?
@divegeester saidMy reviews tend to say something like good quality, arrived on time. I am too lazy to write much else.

I recently had such a review rejected, no explanation given. So someone (something) is checking the reviews. But maybe not doing the best job.
@kewpie saidThat is a really great strategy. I can't see any reasons to take the time to write a negative review unless something was really wrong. Unless I am being very naïve here??
I read them, but mainly the critical ones to see if there's a reason not to buy. I don't read the positive ones any more as I have seen so many fake recommendations.
@petewxyz saidYou still get the odd whinger who complains about trivia, but most critical reviews appear to be legit. Of course you can never be sure about the truth of anything published online.
