Just been reading the general foum post that have been buiding up
while I've been on holiday... came across a request by Maggoteer for
a MAP war version of the Tolkien 'Rings of Power' poem. So here goes:

Pawns of Power
-----------------

Three pawns aflame for Mappers all
Seven for the bishops in castles safe and sound
Nine for the pieces doomed to fall
One for evil Vaknso with cowardly knights around
In the dark MAP kingdom where tales grow ever tall

One flaming pawn to rule them all
Red hot and burning bright
Good Rhymester he doth tend its fire
His rebels join the fight
This pawn a torch to lead the way
An awe inspiring sight
It burns away the shadows
Turns all the wrong to right!
In the dark MAP kingdom the one and only light!

LOL this excersise has got me thinking that I ought to reach for my
bookshelf and dust off the Lord of the Rings Trilogy which I read MANY
years ago... But, should I go and see the film/s first? If so, should I
wait until all three films have been made and see them all together?
And would I benefit from reading 'The Hobbit' first?

How many people out there have read all four books?

Only my opinion but...

Watch the films first, reading The Hobbit while you wait for them to
come out. The films are good but not as good as the book, and I
found knowing the book so well detracted from the film.

Read The Hobbit before LOTR because it is much more of a childrens
book, and might be a disappointment if you read it second.

And most importantly... when you've finished all of these, don't be
tempted to try to read Silmarilian. I tried but my brain started trying to
escape out of my ear before the 4th page.

oh come on! That's just asking for tales of the trolls & the harpies you
find in the nightclubs there...

No, I didn't know that. I knew t was based on England, but I didn't
know it was such a specific area. I'd love to see a comparason of his
maps & what he was basing them on.

It's probably based VERY loosely on the area - a bit like Robin Hood
Prince of Thieves and Nottingham ;-)

Yes it all makes sense now... Gandalf was inspired by Roy Wood,
Noddy Holder and Dave Hill gave us Bilbo Baggins and Frodo!
