It seems like a pretty good year for pecans (in the United States, anyway).

I've shelled 3 5-pound bags tonight (from our grove).

Anyone else like pecans?

You have way too much free time on your hands.

I don't do it every day. 🙂

What happened to the good old days, where people would just sit around and did stuff like this?

Does anyone still sit around a fire with the family and talk, tell stories, play monopoly, or just watch TV?
Three generations of us used to do those things.
I used to love that part of the winter.

Are times like that over now?

I give some of the bags as gifts. I've seen shelled pecans as high as $8 a pound, and that is around here where they are common. 🙂

That works better for the pea can pronunciation.

I say pick-kawns. They are so-o expensive in the grocery store. I have part of a tiny bag in my freezer right now. They are used sparingly! A few lucky friends over the years have been sent boxes of them for Christmas by southern relatives. Yes, I remember Monopoly games that stretched out for a week or more. We got the very first edition from our grandparents who kept us in holiday greens from their holly trees and cedar trees, and a variety of board games. The kids in our little town always came to our house to join us in these games. Happy memories. Television has ruined alot of family fun. We read books aloud to each other, also.
