Pentium or AMD???

I've only ever really used AMD's at home. Are Pentiums really worth the extra pennies? If so, why? What are the real advantages, if any?

What's the reasons for this? Price or performance? Or both?

That's okay. Just wondering. My Brother and I built a PC for my Dad's 60 th birthday. He seemed quite swayed towards Pentium and I reckoned that an AMD would be equally as good, but a fair bit cheaper. As I said before, I have used AMD's for two years and never had any problems with them. I've heard that if your fan dies with an AMD it can take out all of your other components with it, whereas Pentium won't. Other than this, i can't tell thedifference apart from a 100% price hike if you want the latest model.

EDIT: Oh and Pentiums are supposed to be better for 3D graphic animation. RHP doesn't quite drive my machine that hard.

Don't skimp on a fan then. Problem solved.
You can get a lot more speed for your money with AMD. I see no real reason to pay more money for an Intel.

Yes I heard the same about pentiums. I'm not a gamer so I did'nt have much use for 3 d graphic acceleration. When I bought this computer 5 years ago the amd athlon I asked for was more powerful and cheaper then the pentium 3.

AMD 64, Intel are over-priced and if you're a gamer, AMD are better.
