A few months ago a thread was started asking members how many chess sets they owned. I realized I had quite a few boxed away and thought that I really should be able to show some off. So, I started building a display case. When I travel I try to pick up a new board from whatever country I'm in. The only two exceptions are Ghana, where I found a beautiful jade and ivory set that was way too expensive for a poor college student (not to mention the difficulty of getting it back into the US), and Austria, where I'm sure I'll visit again.
I promised in a recent thread that I would post pictures when I finished the display case. You can view them under my name on RHP Faces (when Gatecrasher gets them up.) On the top shelf is a marble one from Mexico, a crystal one from Prague, and my favorite a clay one from Brazil. The third shelf is a set my students bought for me at the end of last school year, the second shelf has one from Kracow, Poland and a set I use most often when playing OTB (very handy for travel). The bottom shelf has two my mother in law gave me. They may not be the most fancy sets, but they remind me of pleasant travels in distant lands.
