Many a hand scaled the grand old face of the plateau
Some belonged to strangers, some to folks you know
Holy ghosts and talk show hosts are planted in the sand
To beautify the foothills, and shake the many hands
Nothing on top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
See a lot up there but don’t be scared
Who needs action when you got words
When you’ve finished with the mop then you can stop
And look at what you’ve done
The plateau’s clean, no dirt to be seen
And the work it took was fun
Many a hand began to scan around for the next plateau
Some say it was greenland, and some say mexico
Others decided it was nowhere except for where they stood
But those were all just guesses, wouldn’t help you if they could
Here is why I posted it... My "wife to be" doesn't much care for most Nirvana... but she was walking through the office and said...
"I think that is my favorite Nirvana song."
I had never much thought about the song... so I listened a bit harder... and guess what.... I really like that song!
I still like Lounge Act, Milk It, and Very Ape better... but Plateau is all right with me.
Originally posted by PhlabibitI clicked on this thread thinking it was about the dreaded chess plateau, but I started humming the song before your post appeared. I must be psychic! Or it's because I heard the original Meat Puppets version just two hours ago π

*edit* which isn't bad either, by the way. I heard the Nirvana versions of their songs before the original ones, and apparently Cobain even mimicks the singers voice.
Meat Puppets Rock!
There was a swirling mass of water that lived in a quiet pond
It asked permission from its master to visit the lands beyond
And its master allowed it to fly
So the wind swept the whirlpool across the sky
The whirlpool's mother wore a jacket she'd sewn out of dental floss
It was stolen by a monkey that sold it to an albatross
And it had the idea to fly
so the wind swept the whirlpool across the sky
