Americans, please do you civic duty and vote on Tuesday.
Your vote counts. every vote counts.
If you don't vote, don't complain.

Americans, understand that the mechanism of voting (not the electoral college, but actual voting itself) is a flawed method of deducing group from individual preferences and don't bother to vote just because it does something nice for your conscience.

Roll on the day when we finally get "none-of-the-above" on all election ballot forms.

I've never registered to vote, pretty much for the reasons that Royalchicken has pointed out. I've always felt that my vote doesn't make a bit of difference, that in the end it doesn't count anyway. This year, my conscience has gotten to me, and I felt I needed to vote. But...I've got this DANG procrastination problem (ask Trekkie, he can tell you all about it) and didn't register in time. Dangit!
So seeing as how I can't vote, I won't complain EDG. π

I don't think politicians are especially fussed about turnout level, they largely just want to be in power. In fact, I think politics in many countries (such as the UK and US) would be significantly more left-wing if everyone tried to make their vote count. Intead you find turnout tends to be much higher among the old and the well-off, and (in the UK) they don't split their vote as much among minor candidates, giving them disproportionate influence on the political setup.

Originally posted by ToeI absolutely agree with this point. I will take it one step further and say we need more "referendums" where the voting public can vote on major issues. For example: Same sex marriage etc. Saying this, please dont tell me why it is difficult etc. I know! I am simply stating a principal. How to do it is another question. But, since in current voting your vote gives a mandate for someone, who does not need to honour that madate!!!, on a thousand and one issues - of which it is probably impossible to agree with that person's opinion, then we have enough of a basis to build on "referendum" style issue voting.

But you can still vote! You need to bring your license, and some kind of a bill that is delivered to your residence with your name and address on it.
Tell them you are not registered yet and they will tell you if you are in the right place. You can only vote for President and vice president today if you have not yet registered.
So, get that crap together and get to your local poll area. You can get more info if you really need it by searching 'rock the vote'. They have good info for first time voters if you need more.
Please get out and vote... even if you vote for a Sox player!

I will also add that every vote 'does' count... since there are thousands and thousands of people who don't vote. So if you do vote... it counts. If you all voted, it would count more!
