Both representational and abstract art involve 'doing' or 'thinking' something. Abstract art isn't eliminating the act of creating art, it's merely stripping away the unnecessary distractions in order to arrive at a direct, unmediated experience of the artwork's essential elements. Even Kazimir Malevich's 'white paintings' involve the act of applying paint to a canvas.
