While this may not be as fun or exciting as submitting poetry for competition, I wanted to take the initiative and start a thread for sharing and commenting on meaningful, thoughtful, and appropriate original poetry. I don't know whether this kind of thread has been attempted in the past, nor do I know whether it will survive beyond more than about a dozen posts, but I would like to attempt it nonetheless.

Wittywonka made a post,
a forum for critique,
where poems were read and diagnosed
and praise would fall to those unique.
The first submission, by the host,
(an avant garde technique)
contained two edits at the most,
the critics thought it weak.

Wittywonka slinks around
avoiding his own thread.
The only poems there to be found
most likely went unread.

The truth it seems, sad and profound,
is that we've been misled.
When Wonka's thread crashed to the ground
he left us all for dead.

Stop your complaining.
There's a competition,
so enter some verse.

ChronicLeaky's greatest crime
is eminently clear:
He would not know a decent rhyme
if it bit him in the rear.

My best poetry has been composed without effort. It has come while I am still asleep! It has been during emotional trauma and seems to be part of a healing process. I often get out of bed and write it down, adding more lines to it. but it is too personal and deep to share with others. I have written alot of poetry while fully conscious...but again...not anything I can share excepting with those close to me. Sorry that your thread has not taken off. I would love to read some good poetry. (stress on GOOD). Do you have any to offer?

There was a man who undertook
to write some poems, it seems.
He plumbed his soul, his conscience shook,
his thoughts were filled with screams.
He meant to write them in a book,
but left them in his dreams.

Very good! Maybe I will be inspired to write something I can share. I know there are some good poets in these forums. Evidently they have not checked out the culture forum.

Such drinks get one high:
she thought she could fly
but really just walked on the ceiling.
