It sounds a lot like the German Vitam-Paste. Our family is divided in Vitam-lovers and Vitam-haters (I am a passionate Vitam-hater).

That page doesn't help much if you don't know what marmite is. I don't know, maybe the site contains some information about it, but since I can't tell whether I hate it or love it without having tried, I can't get any further than the first page if I want to be honest.
