My aunt informed me by email that my mother (who is in the hospital) has cancer... kinda an odd way to find out about it don't you think? I was upset to hear this from my aunt in an email.

Anyways, I responded to her email with the knowledge that I've learned in the past year... guess what? She won't even talk to me now.

Well, it's all true. For years I've been trying to get my mother to start eating vegetables and fruits. She always ignored me and said, "I eat crackers... and when I feel hungry I eat some of these", and she pulled out some candy mints.

I was horrified back then and tried to explain that those candy mints HAD NO NOURISHMENT for the body! But she wouldn't listen. Does anyone's parents ever listen to their kids???

I'm upset because my mother is going to die. She's not going to die because she is sick... Yes, she has plugged arteries, yes she has lung problems, yes she is in pretty bad shape, being 100 lbs overweight and all.

But the real problem is that the hospital (after removing a tumor the size of a baseball from her bladder) is now going to give her chemotherapy - to save her life. Everyone in our family knows that she can't survive rat poison in her veins on top of all her other problems! BUT, there's a LOT OF MONEY to be made by the hospital to give her that rat poison! All they have to do is give her a little bit at a time so that they KILL HER SLOWLY...

IN the end the doctors will face our family and tell us the sad news... that they tried so hard, with the best medical treatment available, to save our mother's life. But after all their hard, combined efforts, she just didn't make it...

Email messages follow: WARNING! Do not read any further if you trust your "health care professional"!

Hi Don: I have something to tell you. I don't know how often you talk
to Jean or Debbie, but I assume you know your Mother's in the hospital and has been off and on for some time. They finally did surgery on her (yesterday or Wednesday, I forget which) and they removed the tumor from her bladder. It was cancer and the Doctor said there are other cancerous clusters in her bladder.

But her heart is really bad and her Doctor is calling in Dr. Silver and hopes he can do a bypass. Ginny wants them to, as she would like to get to feeling better and be well enough to go home again.

She called me this morning and she sounded great - so strong and
just like her old self. We talked a long time, and she asked me to send you an email telling about her condition. I think she's on the
3rd floor but I don't have her room number.

Send me a note so I'll know if you get this.
Love, Aunt Carol

Thanks for the information. They told her 15 yrs ago (when they cut the tumor then out of her bladder) that she had cancer. They prepared her then for chemotherapy and radiation treatments but before they could start, discovered that she didn't have health insurance...

So, as she told all of us, they sent her home to die - telling her that she was "full of cancer".

That was over 15 yrs ago and she's been fine every since. Her only real problem is that she doesn't eat right and doesn't exercise. That'll kill you.

The way I look at it, the medical profession is just out to leach money from people. They ARE NOT "health care professionals" and they DO NOT help people stay healthy! The ARE "disease care doctors" who only work on people who are sick, and for a high price. They want to get ALL their patients on prescription drugs, Aunt Carol. THOSE DRUGS DO NOTHING TO CURE THE PROBLEM! They ONLY treat the symptoms of the problem.

Eat right, exercise, and stop taking the poisons the doctors want to give you because they are in the same class as the dope peddlers on the street!

Arrakis-I sympathize with you,and hope your mother does recover. Keep strong. As for the rest of your thread, you couldn't be more right. I have nothing but fear and distrust of the whole medical profession. Here in New York, not a day doesn't go by without a story in the papers about some medical horror story-the wrong kidney taken out,the wrong leg amputated(I kid you not),the wrong medicine given,ad nauseum. I wouldn't believe a medico if he told me day was light, and night was dark. I had one of these quacks tell me I was going to be dead before I hit 15 due to a untreatable heart condition. When I took my service physical at 19,I was told that not only was there nothing wrong with my heart, there had never been anything wrong with it! So,I don't care how sick I get, these butchers are not going to get their claws on me. You go into the hospital for a hangnail, you come out in a box. No thank you.

Well, it's all true. For ...[text shortened]... doctors want to give you because they are in the same class as the dope peddlers on the street!
There are various issues here:

1. I'm very sad to hear about your mother. That is truly awful. I hope she recovers and I certainly hope you can remain strong. It's hard losing a parent, but you have to remember that it's not what you lose that counts, it's what you had in the first place. I hope all goes as well as possible!

2. Healthy foods, excersise, etc. will not prevent cancer.
It will prevent clogged arteries, various heart conditions, etc. though, so it is wise to eat as healthy as possible (2x fruit a day, 2x vegetables a day, and fish as frequently as possible).
Cancer however can strike anyone. Non-smokers get lung cancer, for example.
Generally speaking your diet may influence the time-table of getting cancer, but it won't stop it.

3. Doctors have an oath to try as best to keep a patient alive and as in good a health as possible.
The situation you are referring to is due to the health systems we have put in place. Drugs companies forcing the hands of governments and therefor of doctors to do various things and use various drugs.

Drugs companies are one of the strongest lobbying groups (along with oil and weapons) in the world.

When the doctor's oath (the Hippocratic oath) is pressurized by money, it is a sad day indeed. Many doctors will dislike it as much as I.
However, it will take more than doctors and patients alone to break the power of the drugs companies.

4. Health insurance companies are scum. Countries that rely on insurance for the benefit of their civilians health have basically SOLD the rights of the individual to companies. Privitisation of the health care system, it is called.
That's capitalism for you and it's happening EVERYWHERE.

It's only when people realise that privitised health leads to selective treatments, that they may wake up to the horrorific situation they are creating.
