A sneetch answers - Boby is correct. I get a bunch of unsolicited
challenges (likely because I am in top 20 MAP) and accept any
interesting open invites (gave up playing 21 day invites - don't want to
wait that long for a move.) I rarely am below 15 active games.
I will change my sneetch status to a non-sneetch shortly, seems only
fair based on the time I spend here.
David
why do people cheat? xeno we know u r good but why do u do that? i
mean u r up by a lot n now i have my doubts if u use a chess
program? its pretty pathetic to make up players i mean u played with
yourself how low is that. n i rem that u also used mattew to defend
yourself in the forums. thats pretty pathetic.
Hehe.
i'm sure they were ...hard.....fought games.
Against....stiff....competition.
but seriously folks. And this has been discussed before.
1) The number of points xeno could have gained from a much weaker
player are relatively small. with a rating difference of say 600, xeno
would have gained less than 1 point per game. More important than
ratings is the outcome of their game, or better yet, a series of games.
2) as a general principle, the rating system is such that illgotten gains
will be quickly lost. Esentially the rating system doesn't have too much
history built in; your current rating is pretty much dependent on you
recent games, not your ancient history. (There are a few flies in that
ointment, but I'll leave it for now). As several players here know, one's
ratings can change very quickly, depending on how one's last few
games went.
3) By my reading - and admittedly a somewhat uninformed review - of
the ancient forums, the games between xeno and mathew may have
been a retaliation for some others doing a similar thing. Remember, I
say may have, I'm not certain. Folks who were actively present at the
time would know better than I. And I'm sure there are as many
opinions as people, and we can again completely fill the forums with
nothing but...
3) No, this doesn't excuse the behavior.
4) Yeah, I think the "defend oneself in the forums with a fake
nickname" is a bit weird. I'll let someone else think of a defense for
that.
5) both xeno and the baron have been accused of cheating in various
forms. As have others. In all cases it would be difficult to prove or
disprove.
Since it seems to be more psychologically rewarding for people to feel
they are playing against fellow people, I suggest one assume your
opponent is human, unless you are certain otherwise.
After all, for all any of us know, this entire site is just an experiment in
artificial intelligence. There is only one human player here, and all the
rest is but a carefully crafted artifice of computer generated games,
personalities and chatter....
