People just can't say "I don't know", they usually come up with "I'm not sure" because they think "I don't know" is impolite or something.

Most people, in my experience, think that if you answer "I don't know" then other people will think you're stupid, but actually the reverse is true.
If you just shout out the first thing that comes into your head, like "What is a mosque?" and you answer "An animal..." you just look REALLY stupid and ignorant.
