Pros:

1. Great coffee (flat whites).
2. Great weather (once summer comes).
3. Surpisingly efficient medical system.
4. Great mid-range dining.
5. The concept of 'BYO' - you can bring a decent bottle of red to the restaurant with you.

Cons:

1. The train system.
2. Crossing the street - it's *so* much harder than in London.
3. Crap radio.
4. Crap newspapers.
5. Crap TV.
6. Shocking roads.
7. Antediluvian licensing laws (can't buy alcohol in a supermarket).

In summary - different to, but not better than, London.

Er...I just moved *from* London.

I'd put one of those googly-eyed smiley icons in here, but that would be extremely patronising, don't you think?

Thank God I'm not the sort of a-hole that would do that...

Hmm - thanks for that. Remind me to tell you about my Huntsman-in-the-car experience one day...

Why? Re-read my original post.

I know you support Liverpool, but there's no need to exhibit all the pikey characteristics of that benighted place.

My wife (who's Australian) wants to be nearer her family; she's not really seen them for getting on for ten years.

And we want to have kids who will speak Cantonese (my wife's parents are originally from Hainan/Hong Kong).

Do they call their Daddy Gwei Lo?

Kidding.

But seriously, I didn't realize there was a big Cantonese contingent in Sydney.

Jeez - have you ever been to Sydney? It's almost like being in Singapore/Hong Kong/Seoul - it's great!

And they'll call me chow chow gwei lo...

My apologies this sounded like a gloating thread - I can't stand 'a-holes' who gloat. 🙂

Really? I'm in Canberra not Sydney, but my local supermarket has plenty of alcohol available for sale.

In some supermarkets the alcohol section is sort of a 'shop within a shop' (Woolworths seems to like this idea, but I've seen it with Coles as well), but that's hardly an impediment to buying it.

There may be some supermarkets that have a grog shop nearby, but generally speaking, in NSW you have to visit the bottle-o...
