Public Dialogue on 'Member Conduct'

Three questions: (1) Does RHP Policy view all stated prohibitions as equally egregious? (2) Is the policy

governing RHP Member behavior uniformly enforced? (3) If not, on what basis are exceptions allowed?

From Red Hot Pawn Terms of Service:

* “3. Your Registration Obligations

c) You may not threaten or harass other users of this Service.”

……………….

* “6. Member Conduct

You agree to not use the Service to: Post, email or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing,

tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable…”

Enforcement is primarily based on members clicking the "alert moderator" button. If 25 people alert the moderator when one person makes an inappropriate or series of inappropriate posts, and no one alerts the moderator when another does it, then in spite of the whining about moderator bias the rule is equally enforced in that the community has in both cases decided what leeway within the standards it will allow.

Another factor, though, is that harassment, etc., can be in the eyes of the beholder. What an outsider might consider inappropriate may be normal banter between the two people involved, or a person's normal posting style, or a custom of this forum (such as posting "good riddance" at each farewell address).

In the end, everyone here is human (in theory) and is prone to make mistakes and decisions that others disagree with. One needs to have at least a small "get over it gene" in order to survive in any public forum, private forum, classroom, family, job, city, nation, planet, etc.

Hi, Hand. Trust that you and your family are in good health and your work and summer are going well. More than pleased to answer your question:

(1) You well know, I'm not "everyone else". (2) Working on 'getting it' and am still teachable. (3) Recent moderator pm scold aroused my interest.
