Ok, you are walking naked along the sunny beach.
All of the sudden, one of the locals approaches you about your fair skin burning so easily.
He offers to bathe your body with a local concoction of coconut oil and rum.
This will prevent you from burning while he licks the application from your body.
You lay there on the towel he has generously provided for you, relaxed with your eyes closed.
A gentle breeze is blowing and your body feels as if it is on fire.

.....to be continued

NO, it was spontaneous, but certain urges had to be resolved. ;-)

ok, back on track - recomend El Yunque, of course, and stopping at the little roadside shacks for some empandas and a Medilla or 3. Vieques is gorgeous. In fact many of the beaches are. Old San Juan including El Moro are touristy but essential. Also near Fajardo is a hidden beach - Playa Escondida - that is truly gorgeous. Ask a local how to get there.....worth the short hike.....

Thanks...yes, I recall we have discussed an art museum there 🙂. I am staying in Condado.

My plan, per day, in between beach nothingness (I can't do too much total sun) is to rent a car and visit:

San Juan - naturally, to tourist it up and stuff...lots of art museums
Yunque - super long day/night hike, naturalist stuff and then sea kayak for the bioluminescence
Fajardo
Culebra Island - for the beaches, (Flamenco especially) snorkeling etc, and the Nat'l Wildlife Refuge...but if you think Vieques is better....?
Arecibo Observatory - "Must Satisfy Urge To Imagine Contact With Aliens"
Considering: Rio Camuy Cave Park

Winging the rest.....

Been there. Roadside coconut, and (separately) roadside pulpa salad (octopus). Ponce architecture and museum if already doing an around the island road trip. Some west coast dining is directly over the water; feed the fish. San German also near Ponce historic and beautiful in spots, somewhat rare for PR. In San Juan, El Morro of course.

But the main advice is: If drinking/bringing back rum, try Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star, not 2 Star. And post your trip review.

i have better advise than all of these people... you don't 'have to do' anything, do what you want when you want and you'll love it. even if you miss out on the 'must see' places, in fact from my experience the random things are usually more rewarding than the boxed tourists places... it's just letting yourself go enough to find them and trusting your instincts.

enjoy 🙂
