Our best family friends, they are well off, both doctors, Bill and Sarah.
Sarah was given a tea service set by bill's mom like 15 years ago.
Said tea service set may be worth some bucks but I would guess not
more than a 1000 US or so max. Now Bills mom died, dad died
several years ago. So the estate is worth over a mil and now bill's
sister calls up Sarah, demanding the tea service be returned.
She will probably fight over Bill's part of the inheritance also is my
guess. So does she have the right to demand this tea service back
(she may think of it as a family heirloom or something) when
her mom freely gave it to Sarah of her own free will 15 years ago?

I'd the tell siad sister to screw herself in Macy's window. The tea set was a gift. A 15 year old gift. Had the gift giver not been sincere in wanting sarah to have it, she would have asked for it back a long time ago.

No. All she can do is take you to court in an attempt to get it back. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of lawyers who will gladly take her money in order to take you to court. But don't give in... giving in is a sign of weakness. If you give in she might decide to take you to court for other things.

It's not a question of selfishness, it's a question of ownership.
