i have just lost a game and my rating has increased , how are the ratings calculated. can someone please asist me.

Unless you've stumbled onto a bug (and a rather large one at that) your rating shouldn't increase if you lose under any circumstance. Maybe someone resigned in one of your other games at about the same time?
